EV/EUV Vehicle Charging

Charging your EV/EUV Vehicle

Mankato Electric Vehicle Charging
Three types of chargers exist currently to charge your EV/EUV vehicle. We'll explain the Level 1 Charger, Level 2 Charger and DC Fast Charging systems. We will break down each of the 3 types of chargers and how each is best used.

Level 1 Charger

Level 1 Electric Vehicle Charger

Most vehicles will come equipped with a Level 1 portable charging cable. These are standard plug 120-volt, 12-amp portable charge cord to charge your electric vehicle. The level 1 chargers can be used at home by plugging into a 3-prong wall outlet, or on the go, plugging anywhere using a 3-prong outlet (we advise asking for permission, if not using personal electricity). Level 1 chargers vary by vehicle, conditions, but you can get about 4 miles of range per hour on a level 1 charger. If you have an average 40 mile daily commute, it is expected to charge daily to replenish used range with a level 1 charger. Level 1 chargers are great for topping off, and are super convenient because you can charge anywhere you can plug into a 3-prong electrical outlet.

Level 2 Charger

Available plug 240-volt, 32-amp dual level charging cord or home charger. Dual level charge cords are available or some may come standard with your EV/EUV vehicles. A level 2 charger is the fastest and most effective way to charge your Electric Vehicle at home. You can charge at available public charging stations that have a SAE J1772 connector. Dual level charge cords can net you 25 miles of range per hour; while a 48-amp wall-mounted charging unit will increase your range up to 40 miles per hour of charge. If you average 40 miles daily commute, level 2 chargers allow you to charge your EV every couple days, rather than having to plug in daily. Level 2 chargers are the recommended way to charge your EV/EUV vehicle. Many apps also allow you to find and locate public level 2 charging stations.

DC Fast Charging

DC fast charging is currently not available for home use, but can be found at public stations. You can easily charge on the go if the station has a SAE Combo connector. DC Fast Charging will allow you up to 100 miles of range during a 30 minute charge. DC Fast Charging is the perfect way to extend your road trips, and the optimum way to design and plan your road-tripping adventures.
